Santiago Mariño International Airport (PMV) sits in the middle of the island, about 25 km from Pampatar. Getting here is easy once you understand the available options.
From Caracas: the air bridge
The most common connection is the Caracas (CCS) – Margarita (PMV) air bridge. Laser Airlines, Conviasa and Rutaca operate multiple daily flights; the journey takes around 45 minutes. Prices fluctuate — buy weeks in advance if you are travelling in high season.
Caracas airport (Simón Bolívar, in Maiquetía) is connected to the city centre by bus or taxi. If you arrive on an international flight, note that the domestic connection may require a terminal change.
From other Venezuelan cities
Direct flights from Maturín, Barcelona, Maracaibo and other main cities are available with varying frequency depending on the season. Check availability in advance as schedules change.
From abroad
There are no direct flights to Margarita from most countries. The most common route from Europe or North America is connecting via Bogotá (Avianca/Latam), Panama (Copa) or Lima. Some travellers enter through Caracas and stop for a day before continuing to the island.
The ferry from Cumaná or Puerto La Cruz
Conferry and Gran Cacique ferries connect the mainland to the island. The journey from Cumaná takes about 4 hours; from Puerto La Cruz, 5 to 6. It is an affordable and scenic option if you are bringing a car or have time — but schedules are variable and it is worth confirming availability in advance.
From the airport to your accommodation
The most comfortable option is a taxi or private transfer. The price from PMV to Pampatar is around 15–25 USD depending on the operator. Shared taxis (carros por puesto) are cheaper but involve waiting and changing vehicles. If you let us know your arrival time, we can arrange a transfer for you.
